Odd Socks in Support Of Down Syndrome Day 2019

Staff and the people they support at Praxis Care Connects Service based at Richmond Hall Derry supported World Down Syndrome Day 2019 by wearing mis-matched socks.

Down’s syndrome, also known as Down syndrome or Trisomy 21, is a genetic condition that typically causes some level of learning disability to varying degrees and certain physical characteristics.

Down’s Syndrome Day is celebrated every year on 21 March and emphasises that people with Down’s Syndrome must have opportunities to live fulfilling lives in all aspects of society. This year people around the world marked the date by wearing odd socks to raise awareness of the cause.

Socks have been used as the symbol for Down’s Syndrome Day because chromosomes are shaped “like socks” and those with Down’s syndrome are born with an extra one.

Well done to those at Richmond Hall for supporting this event!
