Foyle Young People was also awarded the prestigious CEO Award—a recognition of the incredible impact Debbie and her team are making. Read on to learn more about Debbie’s story and the work she does!
Q: What’s your proudest moment at work?
“I don’t have one particular moment, but I get a great sense of pride every time I watch staff supporting young people to reach outcomes they were anxious about or unsure they could achieve. Especially if those staff are new to health and social care, or if they themselves were unsure this was the right role for them.”
Q: What’s your favourite way to unwind after a busy day?
“I like to relax at home with my family, or keep active by attending the gym, pilates class, or walking.”
Q: If you could have dinner with any historical or famous figure, who would it be and why?
“Sir David Attenborough, I love to travel and enjoy exploring other countries, especially the beautiful scenery and nature. I would like an opportunity to chat to David about some of the places he has explored and learn about the nature and wildlife.”
Q: What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
“I am a bit of an adrenaline junkie. Some recent pastimes have been touring around Europe on the back of a motorcycle, completing a parachute jump, and hanging off a skyscraper in New York.”
Q: Do you have any guilty pleasures (e.g music, hobby, or TV show)?
“Love listening to 90’s Trance music, or watching Grey’s Anatomy.”
Q: What do you enjoy most about being part of the team at Praxis Care?
“The people I work with, I have made some amazing friends during my time working in Praxis and I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from my colleagues and mentors.”
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d share with someone starting in your role?
“Give yourself time to learn all aspects of your role. The experienced staff have so much knowledge and understanding of their role, sometimes it can be daunting for a new start and they feel like they are out of their depth. We all had to start somewhere, so ask lots of questions, you will get there!”
Q: What did your Award win mean for you?
“Every year I attend the awards I leave saying the same thing. Everyone is deserving of the award, we work with a fantastic bunch of people. So to be chosen to win the award last year gave me an immense sense of pride, I was extremely grateful.”
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Debbie for taking the time to share her story with us. We’re proud to have her as part of the Praxis Care team, where her dedication to supporting young people and empowering her colleagues shines every day.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we honour the incredible women like Debbie who make a lasting impact in our community and beyond.
